Keyword Highlight - Research

Image
Hello guys! Hope you’re all doing well! Welcome to another Keyword Highlight article! This time I’m looking into a very interesting one present in The Siege of Draco Temple; Research . Here’s the definition from the website. At face value this might not seem like the most incredible ability, however it’s what happens when X is greater than 1 that really gives this keyword some potential! If you only look at one card then, unless you pay the shard to keep it, all you’re really getting is information on what your next draw is. Although that might be helpful to decide on whether it’s better for you to draw or trade, there’s not much more value outside of this. But when you start managing to look further into your palette, with Research 2 or 3 or even more, you then get to choose the strongest card(s) to put straight into your hand and then rearrange the top of your palette with the ones you didn’t take in such an order so you have the best draws possible coming up. So whilst cards that

Card Highlight - Dark Rainbow

Hello Realm Runners and welcome to another Card Highlight article! Today we’re going to be looking into a real superstar card from the realm of Salum that has become one of the most powerful cards from either of the chapters released so far; Dark Rainbow . From the off, no matter what your palette’s end goal is, it’s got a high cost on it which means it has great trade value for those times you need to boost your shards in a pinch.  When it comes to Chroma-based palettes, when you do deploy Dark Rainbow , it can result in a humongous amount of gain; the higher cost actually works in your favour because you’d realistically want to hold this card until your opponent, or you yourself, has deployed a lot of cards onto their canvas so you can really capitalise on it. This also goes really well with the theme of Chief Detective Cronas , Claus Von Ruthro ,  Cara Curdle or Captain Cassius palettes as they all focus on having a large number of cards on your canvas to increase your gain in th

Competitive Talk - What are ‘Staples’?

Image
Hello to you all and welcome to another of my Competitive Talk articles!  Today I want to delve into an area that people less experienced with card games might not be so familiar with but it’s something that, no matter the game is always present especially on the tournament scene - ‘ Staples ’. In every card game ever created there are always certain cards that stick out as being incredibly versatile and generic in what they can do so you’ll find them appear in most, if not all, of the strongest decks within the game. Achroma is no exception to this pattern; whilst the separation of palettes into the different Realms makes wide arcing staples less frequent, within each one there are stand-out cards that I’d always be looking to fit into my palettes regardless of the overall theme of it if I was looking to make it a top tier build.  I know I’ve already talked through a few of these cards in more detail in my Card Highlight series but I thought that, as the game grows, it always helps t

Keyword Highlight - Poisonous

Image
Hello Realm Runners and welcome to another Keyword Highlight article! Today I thought I’d look at one that, as we get more chapters, is going to become more and more prevalent so it’s always worth considering, especially when thinking competitively - Poisonous. Essentially this Keyword means your character can erase anything it goes into combat against whether it has enough strength to or not. The only exception to this, since it ignores Protection , is if the opponent’s character takes no damage from yours which happens if its loaded up with enough objects to soak it all up however Poisonous still means every object it hits is erased.  With all this in mind you can see why it can sometimes be an incredibly powerful ability, especially if you open with it before you opponent has put any characters down as it’s an immediate threat that will limit what they can put down as you can just trade with any of their characters on your next turn before they can react. It’s also worth mentionin

Canvas Palette Showcase - Diversionary Tactics

Image
Hello guys and welcome to another talk about one of my Custom Palettes! Going back to Salum, after our slight detour last week, I thought I’d show you all my palette utilising a rather unloved legendary from A Conjuring at Curdle Cove - Captain Cassius!  This palette aims to combine the Magus Elite’s great ability to go wide with their characters with the Divert mechanic so that any targeting abilities will always hit the least optimal target possible. As well as a lot of cheap characters there’s several cards that benefit from having multiple on the canvas, so the end result is several cards doing a lot of gain meaning it takes several removal actions to counter, if they can get through the Divert setup that is. So let’s go over the individual cards and explanations as to why they’re in here. Captain Cassius - Legendary of the palette, gives you loads of gain if you have a good number of characters out and even more if Hinkley the Navigator is out. Detective Huxon - Gives you mor

Card Highlight - Advance Scouting Party

Image
Hello all and welcome to another instalment of my Card Highlight series. With a more competitive perspective in mind I thought I’d focus on a card that can often slip under the radar to newer players from the realm of Spirata; Advance Scouting Party . This 5 cost action is on the brink of being something of a staple in any Spirata palette for a very big reason - card draw. In Achroma, as with most card games, card draw is an incredibly powerful ability; seeing more cards than your opponent means more opportunity to progress your own plan or find responses to their plays sooner. Combine this with Advance Scouting Party ’s ability to reduce it’s own cost, or potentially even gain you a shard if you choose to trade a 6 cost card from it, and you can see why it’s such a powerful card; at the absolute worst it plays out as a draw 2 for 4 shards which is still worth the cost in my opinion.  Spirata palettes also have access to a great variety of higher costing key cards and staples, many of

Competitive Talk - Custom Palette Building

Image
Hello to you all Realm Runners, hope everyone is doing well! Today, with the Spirata Fall Grand Tournament less than a month away, I thought I’d take a dive into an aspect of the game that I’ve seen quite a few people struggle with and it’s something that will always bring out the strongest palettes in tournaments. So let’s have a look at the process behind building your own custom palettes and what you need to take into account to make it as strong as possible. Overall strategy  First thing you need to decide on is what do you want your palette to do? Do you want it to focus on a particular keyword or strategy like controlling your opponent, or do you want to base it round a particular card as your legendary? Do you want it to be super-competitive or just focus on a combo or theme that you just really like? By extension you then need to consider if your palette is going to be trying to achieve a Chroma or Achrom win or if it’ll be more of a hybrid. Generally a focused win condition i

Card Highlight - Achrom Breach

Image
Hey there guys and welcome to another Card Highlight! This time I thought I’d go into some detail on one card that’s a particular favourite of all the Achrom players out there and, to be quite frank, if I could I’d be putting in every Achrom-based Canvas palette I made but it’s unfortunately a legendary; it’s the Realm Rift Achrom Breach .  Despite it being a high costing card that only drains, if you’ve managed to develop your board state enough then that drain resolve is going to be very damaging to your opponent. Pair that with the fact that this card also repeatedly gets you card advantage which can also contribute to increasing its resolve even further and you can see why it’s such a (in)famous card.  Much like the other realm rifts currently in the game, this card does suffer from the fact that you need to have a strong board presence to get the most out of it, however unlike the others it often doesn’t need to be out for long to end the game; in some situations the very turn it
