Keyword Highlight - Research

Welcome to another Keyword Highlight article!

This time I’m looking into a very interesting one present in The Siege of Draco Temple; Research. Here’s the definition from the website.


At face value this might not seem like the most incredible ability, however it’s what happens when X is greater than 1 that really gives this keyword some potential!

If you only look at one card then, unless you pay the shard to keep it, all you’re really getting is information on what your next draw is. Although that might be helpful to decide on whether it’s better for you to draw or trade, there’s not much more value outside of this. But when you start managing to look further into your palette, with Research 2 or 3 or even more, you then get to choose the strongest card(s) to put straight into your hand and then rearrange the top of your palette with the ones you didn’t take in such an order so you have the best draws possible coming up. So whilst cards that Research more than 1 card are a bit rarer, they are definitely worth utilising if you can!


 On top of this, there’s also ways to slightly mitigate the cost of getting the cards into your hand so that you can do it more often - who doesn’t like drawing cards (almost) for free!

In Chroma based palettes I’d advise using Research sparingly unless you can either regain the shards you’re investing or it reveals a critical card that you need to take control of the situation. For Achrom it’s a good use of any spare shards you may have to try and find your bigger hitters to keep up pressure on your opponent.

At its core, Research is a keyword which, in the ideal situation, gives you brilliant card draw whilst, in the worse scenarios, you’ll still get the ability to filter your best cards to the top of your palette so you can naturally have some better follow-up plays. It’s probably best used as a means to an end to find the stronger cards in your palette, especially if you rely on a particular combination or legendary & rare cards like the well known Dexter, Materno & Jamshid Orb combo.


 You’ll find cards devoted to the keyword Research in the Denizens of Arcus Via faction’s palettes from the Siege of Draco Temple chronicle as well as the Ray and Mutans Realm Runner expansions, or grab the whole lot at once in the Deluxe Realm Box.

Competitive Talk - What are ‘Staples’?

Hello to you all and welcome to another of my Competitive Talk articles!  Today I want to delve into an area that people less experienced with card games might not be so familiar with but it’s something that, no matter the game is always present especially on the tournament scene - ‘ Staples ’. In every card game ever created there are always certain cards that stick out as being incredibly versatile and generic in what they can do so you’ll find them appear in most, if not all, of the strongest decks within the game. Spirata Fall Season begins!

  Hello there Realm Runners, I hope you’re all doing well! As September has now come to a close, so too does Draco Summer season - With Tenebris’ attack successful and the Dragon Temple now fallen the next question is…. What fate awaits the Fairies and Pixies of the Spirata Planum? That’s where all of us, as players, come in!
