Rules update - Hunters becoming the Hunted?!

Image
Hello realmrunners and welcome back! Today I’ve got quite an exciting update as a new rules document has been released, now version 2.2, which you can read in full  here . What I really want to focus on today though is the fundamental change to, what is often regarded as, one of the weaker keywords in Achroma; Hunt . Here’s the initial ability of the keyword from when The Last Snow Dragons of Altari landed on the shelves. The need to target an opponent’s Character; have both the Hunter and target survive a full turn; along with the delay in the effect going off, put this strategy at a severe disadvantage versus others, especially since the other keyword to emerge from the set was Freeze which has become a staple in any competitively driven Draco Palette. With the new rules update there’s quite a significant change to it that could really improve its standing. See if you can spot it in the updated description below. The ability to target any Character, not just your opponent’...

Dragon Riders Day is here!

Image
Hello realmrunners, hope you’re all doing well - tomorrow is upon us; Dragon Riders Day down at Five Realms Gaming Lounge! I will be down from early on for anyone who fancies getting in a few games throughout the evening. I’ve also put together some boxes full of every card from each of the realms so, if you want to, you can try your hand at putting together a custom palette for a couple of games with complete freedom! If you’re curious about the game but haven’t gone as far as to buy anything just yet it’ll be the perfect time to get stuck into it!  For all the collectors out there it’ll also a great time to try and get your hands on some real prizes, included graded legendaries, alt arts and more! To top it all off we’ll be seeing the creators and artists behind the game present so, if you have a particular favourite card or other collectible, you can even get it signed!    Hope to see you all there tomorrow - the fun starts from 4pm! That's all from me for now guys - i...

Custom Palette Showcase - Sacrificial Tactics

Image
Hello realmrunners, well it’s been a fair amount of time hasn’t it! Hope you’ve been doing well since I last wrote! With the upcoming event on the 21st of August dedicated to Dexter Master of Dragons I naturally started to look more into options of custom builds from Draco planum and realised something; one thing I’ve never seriously done is take a crack at a more Sacrifice focused build and, after some tinkering, I quickly remembered why. With the aim of the game being driven by your cards’ resolve effects, using them up as fodder for some of your abilities might seem counter-intuitive as you can’t win as quickly; but building and piloting this style of custom Palette requires you to play with a very different style - absolute control over the Canvas and grinding down your opponents’ best resources. Before we go into any more detail here’s my build below. The overall strategy, as stated above, is to grind through your opponent’s resources and win by being the only player with an...

Custom Palette Showcase - Frozen Wastes of Altari

Image
Hello realmrunners and welcome to a look at another of my custom Palette builds! This time I thought I'd look into making one based around arguably one of the strongest keywords in the game so far; Freeze , as, surprisingly, despite all my toying with the cards from The Last Snow Dragons of Altari, I've never actually built a Palette focused on it; its just always been a support ability. So without further ado here's the list. The strategy is pretty obvious from face value; use your built-in synergies within your cards to bring your Shard Bank up to 30 while all your Freeze abilities prevent your opponent from doing the same or doing any significant damage to your shard total. Onto the thought process behind the individual cards. Crackle  - Not an overly popular Legendary for Freeze Palettes but I personally really like how it can completely stop your opponent's lesser cards on their Canvas from resolving whilst building up its own resolve. Whilst it does also affect y...

Card Highlight - Materno’s Egg

Image
Hello realmrunners and welcome to another Card Highlight!  Today I thought I’d go into one particular Object that has a couple of interesting applications in the Draco realm; Materno’s Egg . The key thing to take away from this card is how you use it; in a Palette full of dragons it's effectively extra card advantage that then allows you to deploy an extra Character without paying for it and outside of your 3 card deployment limitation. However what I really want to focus on is how this one card makes two particular dragons a lot more consistent to get hold of; enter Harusk and Materno . Both of these cards have some incredible abilities that are made even stronger when taking into account the Dispose effect of Materno's Egg can be used on your opponent's turn, therefore enabling you to get them online in reaction to a play they make rather than waiting for your turn to come round. This means, for example, you can deploy Harusk  when your opponent plays a really powerful...

Chapter Analysis - The Last Snow Dragons of Altari

Image
Welcome to the next Chapter Analysis guys - today looking at the follow-up to the fan favourite Draco realm; The Last Snow Dragons of Altari. Chapter Overview Where the first chapter was quite Typal focused, this one instead leans a lot heavier on its Keywords, Hunt  & Freeze , and experiments with the idea of spreading them through both sides of the conflict. As is becoming quite typical of the Draco realm in general, although not all the Legendaries support the new Keywords, they are all very control-oriented. Removal & Interaction Both of the new Keywords in this chapter are heavily based on interaction with your opponent's cards so there's heaps I could put under this topic, however if you're talking generic removal pieces there's a few options that give you ways of Erasing troublesome Characters and Locations outright. Aside from this you'd have to tap into one of the abilities previously mentioned, what's worth noting is there are some key ones th...

Competitive Talk - Realm Rift Chapter 1 Top Picks

Image
Hello Realmrunners and welcome to something a little different from me this week in terms of competitive talks. With the Achroma 2.0 launch event a little while back now, they introduced something quite common in the TCG community, a draft-style format, which has been aptly named Realm Rift. If you wish to know the mechanics behind to perform the initial draft, the steps are listed on the website  here . The entire premise of this format, much like in other games, is to build yourself a Palette solely from the cards you have drafted from the packs available. Whats exciting about this is, due to the fact the Chapter 1 boosters contain every realm within them, the rule that all your cards must come from the same realm is completely disregarded as well as the limitations on how many of the same name you can play; you are only restricted by what cards you see in your piles as they’re passed around the table. So, given the structure of cards in the booster packs plus the complete freedo...

Card Highlight - Dexter Master of Dragons

Image
Hello realmrunners and welcomd to another Card Highlight! This time I thought I’d look at one that might seem a little obvious but there’s more to it than meets the eye, albeit not in the way you’d imagine - that is the limited edition charity card Dexter, Master of Dragons . Already at face value it’s an incredible card, 2 cost to give every dragon you control Protection and gains you a shard for every card you control? Incredible value. The Protection can play to your favour in a couple of ways; the obvious way is your dragons can now only be Erased either through Poisonous damage or through your opponent forcing you to Erase them, such as through Sorrono , but it also means you can use your weaker Characters to take down stronger ones without losing them in combat. Dexter, Master of Dragons will definitely be a huge target for your opponent when it hits the field, so it’s best to have some way to keep it around ready to be deployed on the same turn. Your best options are Matern...
