Card Highlight - Achrom Breach

Hey there guys and welcome to another Card Highlight!

This time I thought I’d go into some detail on one card that’s a particular favourite of all the Achrom players out there and, to be quite frank, if I could I’d be putting in every Achrom-based Canvas palette I made but it’s unfortunately a legendary; it’s the Realm Rift Achrom Breach

Despite it being a high costing card that only drains, if you’ve managed to develop your board state enough then that drain resolve is going to be very damaging to your opponent. Pair that with the fact that this card also repeatedly gets you card advantage which can also contribute to increasing its resolve even further and you can see why it’s such a (in)famous card.

Much like the other realm rifts currently in the game, this card does suffer from the fact that you need to have a strong board presence to get the most out of it, however unlike the others it often doesn’t need to be out for long to end the game; in some situations the very turn its played it can end the game.

Currently it’s found its most suitable home in custom Pixie palettes from The Fall of Flutterby. This is because it has some fantastic synergies; firstly there’s a lot of cheap characters that, thanks to the Splat mechanic, can increase your drain resolve even further with no extra cost; it has arguably the best draw power of any chronicle currently with Wincey Rustwhether, Imp and Advanced Scouting Party helping you draw deeper into your palette; also if you want to focus on getting to Achrom Breach as quickly as possible, you can construct your palette to include Fallen Stone Skeleton Key which can then Reveal Achrom Breach if it’s your only location. Going even further you could then include Factory Production Line to get to Skeleton Key sooner if you run it as your only item as well. This would effectively mean you’re running five copies in your palette at the added cost of it potentially being 3 shards more to deploy.

In terms of countering it, by nature of it being a location Achrom Breach is relatively tough to remove, outside of designated actions to target it. Salum decks can be in a unique situation where they can actually use Hostile Takeover to Claim it from your canvas. Ultimately, in a competitive setting, you really only want to be playing Achrom Breach if it’ll win you the game or get your opponent so low that they’ll be struggling to recover in time; if you play it too soon or don’t damage your opponent’s shard bank enough then there’s every chance they can immediately deploy an answer to it which will mean you’ve wasted quite a few shards on what was just a single burst of drain.

Hopefully this gives you some insight into where the strengths, and a bit of the weaknesses, of Achrom Breach come from. The main lesson to keep in mind when thinking of going against it is quite simple; always have some form of location interaction in your palettes! Although I’d encourage that even without taking Achrom Breach into account as some of the strongest cards in the game are locations! You’ll find Achrom Breach, as well as two copies of Factory Production Line from earlier on, in the Hod Rise of the Realm Runners expansion which is also part of the Spirata Deluxe Box on the Achroma site.

Just a quick reminder for you all - we are currently in Spirata Fall Season! That means any purchase of £30 or more made on the Achroma Store will automatically have the new promo card included with their order!
