Card Highlight - The Unruly

Image
Hello guys and welcome to another Card Highlight article! It’s been a hot minute since my last one (apologies for that!) but continuing with looking into The Secrets of Spirata cards I thought I’d go over one that’s quite an underdog as it has some fantastic potential and flexibility whilst also being quite a niche card; The Unruly . At first glance his ability might seem mediocre at best but just take a second to think about it; anytime a card is Erased he immediately steals 1 with no other restrictions. To understand how far this card can go we need to expand on what causes cards to be Erased. Firstly there’s the standard route of Erasing cards through combat; The Unruly already sports a decent Strength of 4 which will allow it to attack over a lot of other Characters in the game, triggering his ability to steal shards with little to no cost involved. Further to this, if there’s ever any Objects involved in combat he Steals additional shards for any of those that are Erased as well,...

Custom Palette Showcase - Secrets; Keep 'em or Reveal 'em?

Image
Hello to you all realmrunners and welcome to another Custom Palette Showcase! Today I though I'd take a slightly different approach as I thought I'd share my Secret  palette based around Lord Eldrich Willard  however, given the different ways you can approach utilising Secret  as a strategy, which I discussed in my Keyword Highlight article here , I thought I'd present show the slight differences in each approach that you can take with it. So without further ado let's start with my personal favourite and the original plan for this article; stealing your opponent's resources with Lord Eldrich Willard . As stated earlier, this Palette aims to take advantage of stealing your opponent's resources before they even get to see them and control those they are able to deploy. It has a mixed win condition; although the resolves generally point to a Chroma focus, if you manage to build up enough Secrets  on your canvas you'll find Lord Eldrich Willard 's resolve...

Custom Palette Showcase - Creatures of Altari

Image
Good day to you realmrunners and welcome to another Custom Palette Showcase! This time I thought I’d visit a theme that occasionally has some real success and that’s basing your palette around a specific shard colour. With The Last Snow Dragons of Altari came a lot of Cyan-coloured support along with a good amount of creatures that shared some really good synergy as well so I decided to take a shot at building something to take advantage of this so here’s my Cyan based list. Overall it’s a simple plan; put all the Cyan coloured cards out and reap the benefits of all your boosted resolves to win by Chroma. There’s also a small protection package to make your Characters more durable. So let’s go over the individual cards. Yana - Amazing one drop for this palette especially if you have an established board already, remember her resolves counts every individual shard so Snowdrift Sanctuary alone already makes this a +5. Materno - Enables Protection for all your other characters while ha...

Competitive Talk - Palette Archetypes

Image
Hello realm runners and welcome! It’s been a hot minute since I did any competitive-based articles; since before the last GT actually, so thought it was about time to revisit them. As Achroma’s card-pool expands we start to see palettes across every realm that have similar playstyles or gameplans in how they are going to hit 30 shards or drain their opponents down to 0. For anyone already involved in the competitive scene of card gaming this topic is already a known thing; Archetypes . Generally speaking, when it comes to most card games, there are three main branches of  Archetypes; Aggro , Combo  &  Control . So let's give a general idea of what each one is for those not so familiar with them. Aggro  - Arguably the most simplistic Archetype  and very newbie-friendly; put out a lot of threats quickly so you're opponent is unlikely to be able to deal with everything and win through sheer force. Combo  - Using your cards in a way that they all synergise ...

Canvas Palette Showcase - Rage of the Brisgavi

Image
Hello Realmrunners and welcome to another article going over one of my custom palettes! With the release of Norso’s second chapter being the next thing coming up on the Achroma calemdar, I thought I’d revisit a couple of my custom-built palettes from the original set and its expansions. So here’s my custom Brisgavi faction list. The overall strategy of this list is pretty simple; use your characters to try and maintain control of the board through combat until you are able to find one of the bigger resolve cards to seal the deal as, theoretically, your opponent won’t have anything to stop it at that point. Where this palette can struggle is the fact it’s heavily reliant on having a well established board to both maintain its own shards and attack the opponent’s as well as being a little slow to start with so your first turn won’t be as powerful as Achrom palettes from other realms but, with a decent setup, it can snowball. So let’s go through the cards themselves. Achrom Breach - Alrea...

Card Highlight - Invasive Parasite

Image
Hello realm runners and welcome to another Card Highlight! As I’m still digging my way through the details of the Secrets of Spirata set, I continue to find unsuspectingly good cards that sometimes completely passed under my radar when first looking through the set. Today’s card is a perfect example of that; that is  Invasive Parasite . This little Parasite may seem rather unimpressive but, in terms of interactive cards from Spirata, it’s proven a valuable tool in shutting down many cards’ abilities and resolves. This is helped by the fact it actually breaks the usual restriction that you can only Infest characters as this critter can also Infest locations; so for the cost of a single shard you can really cripple some, otherwise, very powerful cards. This includes cards like  Countess Issadora Curdle ; Fibron ; Blueprint Swirl ; Gunnar of Brisgavi and Achrom Breach that would otherwise allow your opponent to run away with the game or control the canvas.  Due to the nat...

Keyword Highlight - Reveal

Image
Hello all and welcome to another Keyword Highlight! Today I’m going to go into one that was introduced in the Rise of the Realmrummers expansions and it can have quite a big effect on palette building especially when you’re looking to build one based around a particular card; Reveal . So to start with here’s the definition of the website. On the competitive scene, this Keyword sees play mostly through the coloured realm runes that come with one of the expansions from each realm.  Generally speaking, the Chroma aligned ones; Algiz , Isaz and Kaunan ; are used to find a specific card so that you’re effectively running more copies of it at the cost of a rare slot in your palette. While the Achrom aligned  Peorth , although some lists use it for the same purpose, is more likely to be utilised as a mass-drain action that just happens to deploy something along with it. Some of the biggest names to try and Reveal with these runes are ones like Dexter, Master of Dragons ,...
