Card Highlight - The Unruly

Hello guys and welcome to another Card Highlight article!

It’s been a hot minute since my last one (apologies for that!) but continuing with looking into The Secrets of Spirata cards I thought I’d go over one that’s quite an underdog as it has some fantastic potential and flexibility whilst also being quite a niche card; The Unruly.

At first glance his ability might seem mediocre at best but just take a second to think about it; anytime a card is Erased he immediately steals 1 with no other restrictions. To understand how far this card can go we need to expand on what causes cards to be Erased.

Firstly there’s the standard route of Erasing cards through combat; The Unruly already sports a decent Strength of 4 which will allow it to attack over a lot of other Characters in the game, triggering his ability to steal shards with little to no cost involved. Further to this, if there’s ever any Objects involved in combat he Steals additional shards for any of those that are Erased as well, especially if you’re able to set up a Prismsprayer to pass back and forth, resulting in a good chunk of Steal so long as the equipped Characters survive the combat or there’s also the lesser known Achrom Corruptor which enables you to Erase multiple cards in a single attack, just be careful not to be too reckless and lose it too soon!

In addition to combat there is also the method of Erasing  cards through other cards’ abilities or Actions. Although not quite as common as in the realms of Salum or Draco, in Spirata you’ll still find a fair amount of cards that fall into this category, including popular favourites like Sorrono, Carmela Traitorius & Unfathomable Hunger.

Outside of these you can also use Infest alongside The Unruly as this adds cards to your opponent’s Canvas which will be Erased when the Infested Character is Erased, adding to the Steal ability. Although I often find if I’ve Infested my opponent’s cards I’ll save my other removal for different cards or else it’s potentially a double drain on your resources. Also something to note when it comes to Keywords that have potential to combo well with him, Dispose by its nature Erases the card in order to use its ability so, although there’s no significant cards in Spirata that use this Keyword yet, it’s very much something to consider plus the fact it can done on the opponent’s turn allows that extra layer of control.

It’s clear to see, going through all of this, that The Unruly is very much a support player for any control themed Palette and, whilst it might not be a big player at the time of writing this, it’s certainly got the potential to be a key piece in the future. In terms of being Chroma or Achrom orientated this card is very much in the middle; its natural resolve might be a Gain however the Steal ability can push you towards either goal. At current, with all the Object support that released in Secrets of Spirata, I can mainly see this card being used alongside them to benefit off when the Objects are Erased, particularly Thrash as they very much complement each other, but more to come on him soon!

You’ll find The Unruly in the Palettes associated with The Forgotten faction from Secrets of Spirata, headed up by either The Fallen or Spirata Scrapyard, currently available in First Edition from the Achroma Store.
