Keyword Highlight - Sacrifice

Image
Hello Realm Runners and welcome! This week on my Keyword Highlight series I thought I’d take a deeper look at a lesser used one from Chapter 1 of Draco, Sacrifice . So let’s get right into it. Seems simple enough right? Although you’ll probably be asking yourself…. but why would that be a thing? What isn’t obvious from the website’s definition is that this is effectively added as a further cost to certain cards, currently all actions, to use the ability of them. Some examples, found in the Stone Waste Drakes palette, can be found below.  These abilities can be very powerful, albeit some are better used in games of 3 or more players as they become stronger the more opponents you have. Tactically speaking, since all Sacrifice cards are currently actions, the way to get the most value out of them is to wait until after your Resolve step to deploy them; this means all your cards get to use their effects before being erased. Despite this powerful potential in the right situations...

Canvas Palette Showcase - Rayders

Image
Hello to you all and welcome to another Custom Palette Showcase! I had planned to go through my collection in realm order however, with Charlie’s weekly challenge as well as the GT upcoming on December 16th, I thought I’d skip ahead to the very much current peak of the meta in Achroma - Rayders.  Here’s the decklist I used to win the Draco Summer GT back in September. For those not aware - the strategy behind a Rayders palette is that you use a lot of high value cards as good trade fodder whilst you deployer smaller costing cards which then pay for themselves, or net you more shards, on the same turn that they’re played so you’re constantly gaining. This results in you generally closing out the game by the end of your 2nd turn (a 1st turn win is also possible!), if you’re up against a strong opening Achrom deck or just don’t see your high shard cards quick enough, this is when it can drag out a little more however all it takes is one explosive turn and you’re back on course to win ...

Card Highlight - Cintimani Stone

Image
Hello to you all and welcome to another of my Card Highlight series! This time I thought I’d address a very very  well known card within the more experienced Achroma community, whilst those of you a bit newer to the game might not be aware of how well this card lives up to its hype. This is, arguably, the most-played card in Achroma right now across all the realms’ palettes; the legendary Realm Relic, Cintimani Stone. Let’s get the easy stuff out of the way first; it’s a Realmless Object so can fit into literally any palette (as long as you think you have the space in your rare slots of course!); with 5 strength it’ll make even the smallest of characters a big threat in combat; a steal 2 in the resolve is nice to have on it; finally it’s high cost can also double up to make it great trade fodder as well, although the only situations I would ever suggest trading this are either to win you the game by getting you to 30 or if you desperately need those 5 shards to make a play th...

Keyword Highlight - Divert

Image
Hello Realm Runners and welcome to another instalment of my Keyword Highlights series! Today I thought I’d look at one that can often appear confusing at first to some people and also, I feel, is one that has more strength than you’d initially think; Divert . As always let’s start with the definition from the Achroma site. Notice how the card with Divert must be a legal target for the action or ability it is reacting to; this means if your opponent is using a card like Breath of Ice you can’t try to Divert it onto a character to save the location, however if they used Fireball you could react to it as Fireball can target either a character or location. It’s also worth noting that Divert has a specific interaction with Hunt , one of the newer Keywords. When the Hunt target is initially declared that’s your window for using Divert to alter the target; if you play a card with Divert when this has already happened then you can’t change the target when the Hunt ability resolves ...

Canvas Palette Showcase - Sea Witches’ Curse

Image
Good day Realm Runners and hello to you all! Today I’m bringing you another of my custom palettes, this time it’s one focusing on using the keyword Curse to aid your ability to drain your opponents shards away. This build does share several similarities with my Occultist palette, which you can see  here , however due to it being focused on a specific keyword I find it has a more thematic feel to it. So let’s go over the full list. The overall strategy of this build is arguably quite risky; you want there to be a lot of cards on the canvas, whether that be on yours or your opponent’s, to get the most drain you can out of your bomb plays. However allowing your opponent to establish a board can mean they start to out-do you in the resolve so it’s important to make good use of your control cards to help keep them from going too far. To help towards this I’ve included a good amount of inherently Cursed cards so that you can still get a limited benefit without having to deploy Da...

Canvas Palette Showcase - Occultists’ Ambush

Image
Hello Realm Runners and welcome! Today I’m bringing you the first insight into a custom palette I’ve built. I’ll go into the overall gameplan of the palette as well as why I’ve included certain cards of note as well. To start us off I’ve chosen one of my favourite Achrom palettes to play; Occultists. So let’s begin by showing off the full list. Main thing to note is that this palette has a lot of natural steal between all of its characters and locations, alongside the fact that 22 cards cost 3 or less shards to play; this makes it relatively easy, depending on what you’re up against, to manage your shards effectively. This also plays into what I built it around; a lot of cheaper little hits that keep my shards going and can pay for themselves quickly. Then, with a few of them on the canvas, deploying a couple of the actions to hit the opponent with a mass drain or steal play and end the game out of nowhere. So let’s have a closer look at some of the cards themselves. Countess Issa...

Keyword Highlight - Splat & Squish

Image
Hello Realm Runners, hope you’re all doing well! With it being Spirata season along with quite a few newer players joining us after Comicon, I thought I’d look into the main keywords from the Fall of Flutterby set as they can sometimes become quite daunting to those who aren’t as used to the game, plus they both operate very similarly so I figured I might as well cover them both in the same post. As always let’s start with the definition straight from the Achroma website. Whilst this may sound pretty straightforward on paper, once you’re in a game and there’s several of these bouncing around it starts to get a little difficult to track, so lets go over the rules regarding how they can be used;  - You must always use Splat or Squish on another card, not the same card using the ability. You are also able to do so to your opponent’s cards if there’s every any niche scenarios where this is beneficial (some characters’ Heroes abilities relate to this as well)  - Splat and ...
