Keyword Highlight - Splat & Squish

 Hello Realm Runners, hope you’re all doing well!

With it being Spirata season along with quite a few newer players joining us after Comicon, I thought I’d look into the main keywords from the Fall of Flutterby set as they can sometimes become quite daunting to those who aren’t as used to the game, plus they both operate very similarly so I figured I might as well cover them both in the same post. As always let’s start with the definition straight from the Achroma website.

Whilst this may sound pretty straightforward on paper, once you’re in a game and there’s several of these bouncing around it starts to get a little difficult to track, so lets go over the rules regarding how they can be used;

 - You must always use Splat or Squish on another card, not the same card using the ability. You are also able to do so to your opponent’s cards if there’s every any niche scenarios where this is beneficial (some characters’ Heroes abilities relate to this as well)

 - Splat and Squish stack, so if you hit the same card with three instances of Squish 1 it will get an extra drain 3 during your resolve. 

 - You can Splat or Squish at any point during your turn as it is an ability of the card doing the Splat or Squish so is not restricted to just your Main Step. This could be relevant if you somehow deploy a character during your Resolve Step and then Splat a card which hasn’t resolved for extra gain.

 - Unless it says ‘Action:’ before it on the card, you can Splat or Squish once per turn for card you have which says so.

 - A Splat or Squish adds to a card’s resolve, meaning that if you choose to resolve a card then Splat it you would not get the extra resolve you just added to it so always do it before you resolve a card’s effect. Realistically the vast majority of players are very forgiving so this isn’t generally as big of an issue, unless we ever get any Dispose abilities that interact in response to it, but just something to keep in mind.

As you can probably imagine it can often get difficult to track what you’ve used Splat or Squish if you have a lot of them going on. Best practice is to either focus all of your abilities onto a single card so its just one big resolve or declare that you’re adding a Splat or Squish as you resolve a card, which is what I personally do most ofvthe time.

The real power behind these keywords is how, often for minimal cost, you can get a shockingly powerful gain or drain resolve that’s repeatable on your next turn without any more shard investment needed, so you can use your next turn to accelerate even further and often aim to end the game on turn 2 or 3 latest! Due to the speed that Splat and Squish can close out games they’re often regarded as some of the more powerful on the current competitive scene; Freeze from the most recent release The Last Snow Dragons of Altari somewhat combats these keywords although it still has its limitations on how much it can control them. 

Over time, for anyone newer to Achroma, you’ll find it easier to get a grip of how best to play your Splat or Squish cards so don’t be worried if you don’t immediately pick it up; strategically they are among the more complicated but also the most rewarding keywords.

 Hello and welcome realmrunners! As we’re now well into sneak peek season for the up and coming Monsters of Norso the content creators of the community are starting to get our own individual cards to look over. So here’s the first piece I have - just some artwork to get us started off; The Minotaur’s Domain . Along with the artwork I’ve got the following little bit of lore to go with it - “The Minotaur resides here when he isn't out wandering the labyrinth.”  So what we know for sure is that it’s a Location that directly relates to ‘The Minotaur’ whom I suspect features in the set’s cover art. First impression I get from this art is that it’s very dark and misty, so most likely Achrom-leaning if not fully Achrom. It’s also giving me a very similar sort of feel to cards like Murky Manor  or Throne Room from the other realms; a very foreboding and shadowy building that’s most likely to be related to a very dark Character. Monsters of Norso Sneak Peek - Drengora, The Fierce

 Hello realmrunners - today I'm going to to be taking a deeper delve into a recent reveal from the upcoming set Monsters of Norso; this is Drengora, The Fierce . Along with the art this comes with the flavour line ' The Monsters aren't the only force to be reckoned with in Norso Planum... ' so, whatever faction the Monsters themselves are on (most likely Achrom I'd expect) this will be from a different faction so it's probably quite safe to assume that from the style of the art, along with this bit of text, we can expect that Drengora will be a more Chroma-aligned character, although whether they're mixed or fully Chroma is yet to be seen. What else can we gather from all this though? Well given that it's a named Character they're going to be Heroic for sure and potentially a key one in their faction - whether that be canonically or within the faction's game mechanic is yet to be seen however. Dragon Rider Day - The Review

Hello to you all realmrunners! Well last night was a fantastically fun evening with games played, some fun auctioning of graded collectible cards and plenty of players getting the chance to get a whole selection of things signed by some of the team. Everyone who attended got a copy of Dexter Master of Dragons as well as the promo location The Secrets of Spirata and a random pin in the new hex style, which I was lucky enough to snag a Conjurer Otrix!  I personally managed to snag myself graded first edition Countess Issadora Curdle and Darnacusk in the auction and got a copy of Haskus , one of my favourite drake Characters, signed by the artist, Marco!  In the auction we also saw copies of the promo locations;  The Fall of Flutterby ;  The Siege of Draco   Temple ;   and The Curse of Curdle Hill which all got snagged up, with Curdle Hill’s promo going for £35 in the end!
