Card Highlight - Hoffel Brown
Hello guys and welcome to yet another Card Highlight article.
Continuing with the focus on the new set, Secrets of Spirata, this time I want to go into detail on a card that has really caught my eye as a powerhouse in almost any palette going; Hoffel Brown.
Hoffel Brown utilises the new keyword from the set, Menagerie, which I’ll go into further at a later point; for now all you need to know is it means its an ability that can be used as long as you control at least 3 different types of characters and can be used at any point in your turn, like an action.
With this knowledge, along with the fact Hoffel Brown is already two of those types being a Fairy and a Teacher, you can see why he’s such a standout card. As long as you can fulfill the requirement he’s at least a +1 on the same turn you deploy him and after that he’s just pure gains at any point in your turn, so you don’t even have to wait until your resolve step to get the shards from him.
If you’re building a deck that doesn’t have any Fairy or Teacher characters in it already, such as a Pixie one, he’s almost an auto include as far as I’m concerned; although Hoffel Brown might not really fit the theme in terms of your win condition or board control he becomes a really powerful source of shards, particularly as the same set has given us the new Mechanical type that is on a lot of the new Pixies, such as Sorrono, The First Mechanical Pixie. Let’s also not forget the very unique Spiral Traitorius who has two cards that both have a double typing, although Fairy overlaps with Hoffel Brown, but his presence on the canvas will also benefit both Spiral Traitorius’ resolves.
In these situations its possible to compare him to other powerful shard gaining cards like Abundance of Quintessence, Full Palette or even Orium Diamond; however, unlike these examples, Hoffel Brown remains on the canvas so if you can protect him he’ll continue to gain you those shards.
Of course there are several cards within the set that can increase his usefulness since he’s got the Menagerie keyword like Hue’s Laboratory, which allows him to trigger twice; or Habitat 101, which makes it slightly harder to take him out in combat as long as Menagerie is active.
You’ll find Hoffel Brown in The Revived faction palettes from The Secrets of Spirata, headed up by either Coffey, Lab Assistant or Nella the First Cured Pixie.
That's all from me for now guys!
