Canvas Palette Showcase - Morag’s Mechanics
Welcome guys to another article going into more of the most recent set, Secrets of Spirata.
This time I thought I’d explore the sub-theme that’s come from the Mechanical Revolution faction; a big focus on objects. I thought the best way to do this would be to show my custom palette I’ve put together, however its worth mentioning this is with me having access to all of the game’s current releases and it is only a slightly tweaked version with a few games’ testing so far so more changes can probably be made to it. So here’s my list as it currently stands.
The overall strategy is pretty straightforward; use all the good object support to play them for cheaper & draw cards while slowly increasing the pressure on the opponents shard bank with my pumped up characters enabling me to decently control the board, until I’m able to deploy a big hitter card for the resolve, which there are a couple of options, to finish the job.
Morag - Her ability already makes your objects much harder to remove and, even with just a couple of objects out, her resolve can snowball very easily.
Sorrono - Removal that can get around Protection sometimes and synergises with Sorrono’s Prototype Wing as a bonus.
Thrash - Triggers whenever any object is deployed, even your opponent’s, so pretty much has to be in here. If you can’t get to, or lose, Morag he’s a good secondary boss to wipe the opponent’s board with.
Cintimani Stone - Pretty obvious why it’s in here; the fact it’s an object is just a bonus.
Sorrono’s Prototype Wing - Good ability on an object that is even better when put on Sorrono himself.
Mechanical Pixie Commander - Extra drain whenever you deploy an object.
Invasive Parasite - Turning off any significantly powerful character’s or location’s ability and resolve for a shard is a pretty strong card in my opinion. Can also be deployed as a character to put an object on in a pinch.
Mechanical Pixie Grunt - Quite a few Mechanical cards in here so the resolve can grow to a pretty strong level.
Surveillance B.O.T - Synergises with Mechanical Pixie Grunt with a steal resolve to boot.
Experimentation Room 001 - Reducing objects’ costs with a healthy drain on it too.
Morag’s Chambers - Card draw whenever you deploy an object.
Fallen Stone Skeleton Key - Gets you one of your location while also being a good strength object.
Funguar Eggs - Poisonous enabler in an object; doubly viscious with Morag out as well.
Mechanical Exoskeleton & Mechanical Arms - More objects for the synergies; both being Mechanical cards also adds to Mechanical Pixie Grunt’s resolve. Mechanical Exoskeleton also providing Divert as a niche way of protecting more important cards in the right situations.
HAIM Shard Cache - It’s an Achrom deck so gotta find space for good trade value.
Unfathomable Hunger - Pretty much the main staple for Spirata palettes; pay 3 and erase any card, being able to deploy a Parasite for free is just an added bonus if it happens to work out.
Full Palette - Nice burst of shards to keep resources flowing.
Some alternative cards I’ve considered putting into this are;
Craven’s Laboratory - Originally had it in there but felt the spot was better used on another rare to give me more control options. Worth noting though that it combos amazingly well Morag’s Chambers as it basically gives you a free draw as long as you have an object to deploy.
Carmella Traitorius - Takes the palette in a more control-focused direction; if I put it in I would probably then look to lean on the number of Pixies I had to increase the drain resolves through Achrom Factory.
Pixie Enlisting - You’d need to shake up your character lineup to replace all the Pixies, maybe focusing on the Parasites, their support cards and Infest as your way of control without reducing your overall number of characters, but this would get you to Morag sooner.
