Card Highlight - Arabella’s Recipe

 Good day Realm Runners!

Welcome to another instalment of my Card Highlight articles, this week looking at one of my favourite cards to come out of Salum Planum’s Phisto & Haruto expansions, Arabella’s Recipe.

For the cost of a mere 2 shards this card has the potential to be an absolute blowout if played at the right moment. You’re realistically never going to deploy this card by itself, you’ll be waiting until you have at least one other card with both a Chroma and Achrom shard in its hex, so it’ll always be paying for itself at the very least. This puts it on the same level as a bunch of strong resolve-like actions, like those pictured below, whilst it could quite easily spiral to steal even more shards if you’re opponent’s been unable to interact with you much.

There’s also the twins from A Conjuring at Curdle Cove, Asa and Apollo, who will give you extra value out of this card if you plan to build a palette around them as well.

Whilst the main examples I’ve used above gives an Achrom focus to this card, where it steals it can also be an effective tool in a Chroma or mixed focus palette. The main reason I generally find it more effective in Achrom palettes is due to them having a greater variety of cards which have both a Chroma and an Achrom shard in their hex so it has greater potential to close out games, especially when combined with another of the above cards to increase the pressure on your opponent’s shard bank. To make it work in a Chroma build you would need to incorporate a lot of those same cards which would mean you’d come out the other side more mixed or heavier Achrom leaning.

In summary, Arabella’s Recipe is a card which requires a combination of a specific palette build and a well timed deployment to use to its full potential. Whilst this might not be beneficial to everyone’s playstyle I just absolutely love the potential this card has so felt it right to dig a little deeper into that for those who may not have given it as much of a detailed look-in. If you are interested in getting your hands on it you’ll find Arabella’s Recipe in the Phisto and Haruto Realm Runner expansions for Salum which I highly recommend you grab if you you’re building any palette within the Realm!
