Keyword Highlight - Curse

 Hello there Realm Runners!

Welcome back to another Keyword Highlights! This time, to keep in touch with the spirit of Halloween, I’ll be going into Curse. As always let’s begin with the definition from the website.

This might seem like a very vague description but Curse is intended as a means to an end rather than an ability which does things by itself.

To start with you’ll need to use your cards to Curse your opponent’s; this can be done by certain characters, locations, objects and actions, all found in the Moonveil Coven faction’s palettes from A Conjuring at Curdle Cove, as well as some characters and locations that are already Cursed (stated in their description at the top of the card next to their card type) so there’s plenty of opportunity to do it. Then there are several cards that interact with Cursed cards such as those below.

On top of this there are some cards that have abilities tied to Cursed cards that get more powerful the more of them there are.

Dark Rainbow itself has cemented its place as a powerful card in any Salum palette, whether it be Achrom; looking to trade it or deploy it to regain a good chunk of shards, or Chroma; going for a big win off the gain it can produce.

As you can tell from the bulk of cards above, Curse is mainly tied to an Achrom faction, without some very unusual additions there’s no real way (outside of Dark Rainbow) to use it as a means to a Chroma victory unless you’re up against another particularly powerful Chroma palette and manage to pull off a huge Summon the Kraken play to get the win perhaps?

Although this, along with Dark Rainbow to Claim as many cards as you can, is a hefty 10 shards to pull off as a combo! So it’s highly unlikely it would be worth the cost, outside of draining an Achrom player down to 0 unexpectedly but then that would hardly be a very Chroma-minded thing to do now would it?

Personally I love how Curse works and can’t wait to, hopefully, see a little more support come its way when we make a third visit to Salum in early 2024! On the surface it may seem rather underwhelming to have to use an ability to then get the best out of the rest of your cards however the payoffs are more than worth it. Between cards like Ezili Algae and Moonveil Rider you get some brilliant character and location control respectively. Also, if you’re able to set up either a Cursed character in your dregs with Ezili Algae, or just use The Bay of Mysteries, alongside your Moonveil Harpy being able to attack into a stronger opponent’s character every other turn, you’re able to regularly and repeatedly drain your opponent’s shard bank with very little chance for them to outpace you.

As mentioned before; you’ll find all the Curse keyword cards in the Moonveil Coven faction’s palettes which can currently be found in A Conjuring at Curdle Cove First Editions. If you wish to get your hands on them, you’ll find them at the online store through the link below. Grabbing yourself a collection will guarantee you get both palettes from the faction and all the other cards from the set as well.

Just a quick reminder for you all - we are currently in Spirata Fall Season! That means any purchase of £30 or more made on the Achroma Store will automatically have the new promo card included with their order!

That's all from me for now guys!
