Competitive Talk - Interaction in Wishwell
Hello realm runners and welcome to another of my competitive talk series.
With Monsters of Norso on the way I thought I’d highlight a unique aspect of the first chapter, The Warriors of Wishwell, and that is the main interaction pieces in it.
Traditionally, in most card games, you’ll find cards such as Fireball, Breath of Fire or even the more recently released Unfathomable Hunger which allows you to remove threats from your opponent’s Canvas.
Outside of a few cards that either take up a Rare slot or have a limiting condition, this doesn’t seem to be as widely accessible in a Norso Palette at first glance, however this isn’t an area they’re lacking in, just one that needs you to look at it slightly differently.
One aspect of The Warriors of Wishwell is its heavy Object focus and this makes quite a big contribution to its methods of removal. From utilising cards such as Torstein’s Gauntlet and Gisle’s Sash to give a more permanent buff to your Characters as they’re harder to remove thus allowing you to be more aggressive against your opponent’s stronger Characters, to others like Lacringi Catapult which have complete flexibility in what they can hit.
This is coupled with the fact you have Eirik of Lacringi, Lacringi Forge and Reforge to help get to your Objects sooner and Dig where needed.
As a side note, although it takes a Rare slot, you can also dip into the Realm Relics and make use of Dyrnwyn or Club of Dagda to add to your ability to remove cards through combat.
Outside of the Objects from the set, there’s a couple of actions which can aid you in removing threats without using up a Rare slot in your Palette. Firstly you have Brisgavi Rage which turns your opponent’s locations into valid targets for your attacks for the turn, especially deadly if you have any Characters with Rage ready to go as they can take out multiple by themselves. As a mote traditional piece of removal you do have Lacringi Way however that is restricted to only affecting cards with Achrom so purely Chroma cards can’t be touched by it. You also have Brisgavi Negotiation which can enable to swap a powerful Location your opponent controls with a less impactful one on your Canvas, similar to how Role Reversal functions for Characters in Spirata Palettes.
How many other ways to interact with your opponent’s cards can you find in the Warriors of Wishwell? And do you think we’ll continue to see this more unique method of interaction in the next Chapter, or will we get more standard forms like the other realms have access to?
