Card Highlight - Harusk

Good day to you Realm Runners!

Welcome to another of my Card Highlights series where I look in detail at a card from Achroma. Now that The Last Snow Dragons of Altari has been out for a good length of time I think it’s right to shine a light on arguably the biggest impact card from the set, which also uses the new keyword Freeze, and that’s Harusk.

This Rare heroic character has been talk of the town ever since it first got revealed as it’s arguably the best card in a Freeze focused palette but it goes beyond that as there’s yet more synergy it has with an older card. Back in Rise of the Realm Runners a card called Materno’s Egg was released.

This lets you, if you’ve built your palette to allow for it, guarantee that you’ll be able to get Harusk meaning that you’re effectively running 3 copies of it (provided you have a character to put Materno’s Egg on of course). Also, the fact that the secondary ability is a Dispose ability means you can deploy Harusk during the opponent’s turn which could mean they’ve wasted playing cards as they’ll then be Frozen and give them no resolve that turn. Take care when doing this though as the only times you can Dispose in your opponent’s turn is when they deploy a card, use an ability or declare an attack so don’t be overly cautious about when you use it; it’s still better they only have 1-2 cards resolving than everything.

Further to this, the actual release of the new set meant we got to see another new rare called Fibron who brings Harusk’s already powerful ability up to a whole new level.

This new Drake character already brings some big strength to any Freeze palette but, with Harusk specifically, it turns an ability which would almost nullify your opponent’s next resolve step into a full board wipe. It goes without saying how devastating this combo is, especially when you factor in being able to do it on an opponent’s turn! It only gets worse when you consider multiplayer games because Harusk’s ability affects all canvas except your own meaning that you could, using the Dispose effect of Materno’s Egg, deploy Harusk during the turn before yours and be the only player with cards still on the canvas from your turn!

Whether your deck is Chroma of Achrom focused, Harusk can provide you with a turn free of your opponent doing anything to boost their shard bank or hinder yours so, if you’re planning on building a Draco palette, I would heavily suggest you find space for this in your rares as it will be helpful in almost every matchup you could face, even more so if you’re doing a Freeze focused build.

Overall it’s safe to say Harusk has very much established herself as a one of the biggest impact cards from the new set. The potential of this card is just amazing and with Freeze now being ruled as stopping any abilities that would gain; drain; steal or prevent this has only increased in power!
