Canvas Palette Showcase - Occultists’ Ambush

 Hello Realm Runners and welcome!

Today I’m bringing you the first insight into a custom palette I’ve built. I’ll go into the overall gameplan of the palette as well as why I’ve included certain cards of note as well. To start us off I’ve chosen one of my favourite Achrom palettes to play; Occultists. So let’s begin by showing off the full list.

Main thing to note is that this palette has a lot of natural steal between all of its characters and locations, alongside the fact that 22 cards cost 3 or less shards to play; this makes it relatively easy, depending on what you’re up against, to manage your shards effectively. This also plays into what I built it around; a lot of cheaper little hits that keep my shards going and can pay for themselves quickly. Then, with a few of them on the canvas, deploying a couple of the actions to hit the opponent with a mass drain or steal play and end the game out of nowhere. So let’s have a closer look at some of the cards themselves.

Countess Issadora Curdle - Legendary of the palette, chose her over Otrix for her massive steal resolve potential as well as for her synergies with Arabella’s Recipe and good trade value to help shard management when combo’d with Occultist Den.

Sorcerer Pifarius - Similar to above, good steal potential just try to hold off deploying him until he pays for himself, unless you need that 3 strength body or extra drain from Achrom Blast or Peorth.

Occultist Den - Gives the palette strong recursion, loop trading to give you strong way to gain shards as well.

Cintimani Stone - For anyone newer to the game, this object is insanely powerful; 5 strength, steal 2 in resolve that gives you the ability to dig for any card in any player’s dregs and deploy it for yourself. In this palette also gets further synergy from the main actions.

Peorth/Achrom Blast/Arabella’s Recipe - Grouping these together as they’re all in here for the same purpose; hit the opponent’s shard bank hard to either end the game outright or bring them so low that the natural resolves end it.

Occultist Shaman/Prism Sapper - Occultist typing for Pifarius, characters for Issadora and all Achrom shards for Peorth/Achrom Blast. Shaman can also dig and deploy Prism Sapper to give you 2 characters for 3 shards for extra resolve from other cards.

Rabid Dog - 2 cost steal resolve that can also get through protection and deter the opponent from playing strong characters without objects to protect, putting further strain on their shard bank in a different way. Synergises with the key actions.

Occultist Warlock - Occultist with both shard types that also steals on the resolve.

A Conjuring at Curdle Cove/Road to Ludlam/Cove Caves - Locations that steal on resolve and synergise with all the key actions

Corrupted Muon Trap - Counters characters with protection, synergises with all the key actions and can steal the key card of an opponent’s palette before they get the full value out of it.

Dark Rainbow/HAIM Shard Cache - High cost actions for trading but strong enough abilities that deploying them can still have an impact on the game; Dark Rainbow can get me a surprise Chroma win, HAIM can add to the steal and can be played for free off Peorth

Fireball - Cheap costing control card with great versatility; a staple for Salum palettes

Hostile Takeover - Another control card that can hit key cards on the opponent’s canvas and even allow me to use it against them.

In terms of alterations I’m toying with a couple for the following reasons;

Countess Issadora Curdle for Conjurer Otrix or Achrom Breach - Both alternatives have valid arguments to play them over Issadora; Otrix allows you a big control play that can be reused through Occultist Den if necessary and Breach plays into the mass drain play, but in location form, whilst gaining you card advantage over time. I just love the huge steal potential Issadora offers plus the ability to loop trading for 6 every turn.

Dark Rainbow for The Curse of Curdle Hill - With this palette not really leaning heavily into the Curse mechanic, plus trading not being as vital for my shard management, I would love to replace it to get another decent stealing location that synergises with all the actions…. But unfortunately I don’t have one!

Hostile Takeover for Restock/Rune Stones - With Claiming an opponent’s location only really being a major thing to counter other Achrom palettes or prevent a Chroma one winning next turn I’ve been tempted to swap it out for some more draw power to see my power plays sooner; this may be a change I make with more testing.
