Card Highlight - Chromatic Infusion
Hello realmrunners and welcome to another article, this time highlighting a card I've noticed has seen very little exposure so far, despite having oodles of potential. Here's Chromatic Infusion.
Let's start by just taking the base value of the card as we read it; you pay 4 shards to Erase any card you like and, untilyour next turn comes around, if a Character with an Achrom shard on it is Erased at all, you draw a card - which can also include the card you Erase with its own ability. Whilst not a bad card in itself, it's safe to say you're definitely paying a premium to perform an ability which is already present in the same set on the Uncommon card Unfathomable Hunger. So to see past, what might seem like, quite a steep cost behind Chromatic Infusion you need to understand that it's best potential comes from it being something to play ahead of any major move you're about to make that would Erase a fair amount, if not all, of your opponent's Characters as one thing you'll notice with more experience in the game of Achroma is that there are quite a lot of widely played Characters that have Achrom shards in their values. Notably this is rarer in Norso decks, as the most competitively viable Trade focused Palettes don't really utilise any significant Achrom cards, but the other realms still have some that are used quite commonly such as every naturally Poisonous Character.
It's important to note that Chromatic Infusion doesn't identify how you Erase cards to allow you to draw cards, just that you do Erase them. This means you have the obvious and conventional method of basically making all of your attacks draw you cards as you Erase your opponents' Achrom Characters one by one, but within Spirata as a realm there are several cards that you can follow-up with to get as much value as possible, especially something like Giant Prism that, while being a costly one to play in the same turn, can refill both your hand and shard bank in the right situation.
Let’s also not forget possibly the biggest factors behind what makes this card take up a rare slot; it applies to any Character, which can include your own, and it lasts until your next turn. This means you could play it when you have a Canvas full of cheap Achrom Characters out, like a load of pixies, and deploy Chromatic Infusion which would not only allow you to get rid of any card on the Canvas but also put your opponent in a dilemma; do they Erase all your Characters to reduce your resolve but allowing to draw a bunch of cards; or do they leave your Canvas alone, therefore making the Action’s ability be wasted, but leaving your resolve intact. There could well be times where your opponent has no choice as well and this just seals the deal as it guarantees you refilling your hand, as if your resolve is untouched they are guaranteed to lose.
So to summarise, Chromatic Infusion is one of those cards that currently has better application if you play the pre-made Palettes rather than custom builds, especially given the fact it takes up a rare slot, bit is definitely a card to keep your eye on as the game develops. It’s also important to note that my main focus with this discussion is the 1v1 format; apply this card in big multiplayer games and it can be incredibly effective.
