Card Highlight - The Valli Caves

Hello to you all Realm Runners! Hope you all had a fantastic New Year and welcome back to another Card Highlight article.

This week I want to go into a card that’s quickly become a favourite of mine from The Last Snow Dragons of Altari; The Valli Caves.

At face value it’s a 3-cost to deploy for 2 gain which is already decent as far as chroma cards go, adding to that it also has the ability to turn off another card’s resolve for an entire turn; that’s any character, location or object. This means that although the gain isn’t massive it can act as a way of preventing something from draining or stealing your shards, especially larger resolve cards like Countess Issadora Curdle or Spiral Traitorius who would normally scale up hugely in the right situation.

On top of this you can combine it with other cards that give you bonuses when you Freeze cards, such as Fibron or Slayscorch Pools, to turn The Valli Caves info a form of removal or increase how much it allows you to gain respectively.

On the flip side, if you’re finding it a struggle to deal with this card turning of one of your resolve effects every turn, you can deal with it in a couple of wats outside of the obvious choice of just removing it. Firstly you could put down multiple cards that benefit you so that it’s less impactful against you, or, if you happen to be playing a Salum palette, you could utilise Divert to make it target your weaker resolves especially if you have cards like Captain Cassius or Hinkley the Navigator out with lots of characters or locations that are more expendable.

Overall, if you’re building a Draco palette, I would heavily recommend you find space for The Valli Caves even if you’re not planning on leaning into Freeze so heavily as a mechanic as it can give you a repeatable way of slowing your opponent down that’s harder to remove whilst giving you some shards back for your trouble.

You’ll find this fantastic card in the second chapter of the Draco realm, The Last Snow Dragons of Altari. If you order a full collection you’ll net yourself 4 copies of it as well!

That's all from me for now guys!
